Ales Ross, sir, I have nothing but weird gooey hero worshiping feeling for you, but what is this? I even read this book after Final Crisis, so you had an ever greater chance of wooing me; but, sir, I am not impressed. I refuse to believe that this is the sequel to the greatest comic book of all time, Kingdom Come (my opinion, I know), and I even ignored The Kingdom as you and DC asked as you withdrew from that project (and due to the ‘Hypertime’ abandonment, which was basically brought back to life a few years later… but that’s a different rant). But ‘The Kingdom’ had more to do with ‘Kingdom Come’ than ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ did. Granted this is a Justice Society of America book, but it’s the Earth-22 Superman! Also, the art wasn't anything like Kingdom Come, where every scene was lovingly painted…
I digress though, maybe I was just asking too much. I enjoyed Earth-22 Superman’s little chat with this Earth’s Norman McCay, the disparity between the two sides of the JSA, and the disparity between what the pro Gog JSA members’ blessings and the curse they really were. I kind of enjoyed Gog’s history, and he was a funny ‘god-thing’, and it’s nice to know where Magog started (maybe, don’t know if this Magog is actually Earth-22’s Magog); but all of this really didn’t effect Kingdom Come much, except maybe add an iota of extra ‘oomph’ to the final scene of Kingdom Come. So, all in all, it’s an alright read, it just isn’t as moving as Kingdom Come was; but maybe I need to stop expecting the best out of everyone every time. Bah, I have hope; the next Alex Ross book better be amazing.
