Final Crisis, it'll make you want a martini.

I did what I normally do and ignored the reviews for this book; and I really wish I didn’t. Final Crisis is the end of the trilogy which started with Crisis On Infinite Earths, with the second book in the series being Infinite Crisis. Crisis On Infinite Earths was alright, and I should probably give it another read. Infinite Crisis was epic, a true paradigm shifting event across all of DC Universe that is a must read for any DC or plain comic fan. All of this led to 52 (which was pretty good) and then to Countdown to Final Crisis (didn’t read). Final Crisis though, left a very bitter taste in my mouth. I didn’t read the companions for this, nor any of the addendums; I believe that these should be extras, and the main story should only take place in the main miniseries (such as Civil War, or Infinite Crisis (though to a less degree)). I am under the belief that even if I did read any of the extra comics I would still be very, very lost. Conversations were started in the middle of nowhere, terms were made up on the spot and used as if they were used the entire DC history and comic buffs were to understand them, and critical elements were missing (the death of the Martian Man Hunter for example (when Blue Beetle died out of book before Infinite Crisis it was heart wrenching but okay, as he was a side character; but the heart of the Justice League’s death doesn’t make it into the main event? For shame!). The intro with Metron, though interesting, was not drawn upon anywhere else in the book; and other parts in the book were just as distracting. This book had none of the soul and drama of Infinite Crisis or Kingdom Come, and was rather just a depressing soul sucking book. If that was their aim, then good job DC; my soul has been sucked dry, and I think you and I need to see other people for a little bit.

Final Judgment: One ‘I’ll be reading Marvel books only for a bit’ out of Five.
