First Impressions: The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road

While I won't begin to imagine why they turned the story of The Wizard of Oz into an RPG, I had to give a try as I loved the books (not to mention I was the mayor of the munchkins in a play (best character to play ever)). So, here's a quick rundown of what I feel after ten minutes with the game, as I don't think I'm interested enough to finish it and give it an actual review. First off, I like the movement controls, which are based on a track ball, quite like the one you see on the golf games in the arcade. I think this is much better than the whole touching the screen to where you want to move, because that just puts you hand in the way of the game and quite annoying. Secondly, the battle system is weird; you pick four actions per round. While this does save time and make it a bit more strategic, it takes away the chance to heal yourself right after you get hit with a critical attack, and you really can't plan four attacks in advance for this as it's all random. Thirdly, they took out Auntie Em and Uncle Henry, and the Oz is actually magical; so I have no faith in the game's faithfulness to the books or movie. Lastly, the border around the top screen is killing me, why would you take away any of my viewing field? As I said, I'm not so far interested in actually playing the game much more, so that's a downer in and of itself.
